Costa Rica: Calypso, the Caribbean folkloric Music!



In Costa Rica, the Calypso entered the port of Limón in 1871 at the hands of black workers from Jamaica, Barbados and Saint Kitts, hired to build the railway that would link the Caribbean coast with the Central Valley.


Currently, the main performers are Grupo Cantoamérica and Manuel Monestel. Some of the best known Calypso from Limon: Cabin in the Wata: Walter Ferguson Mirror: Manuel Monestel Hellen: traditional Limonense folklore Merry Woman: Manuel Monestel Love will follow: Manuel Monestel and Virginia Grutte
