Originally from Penang, Malaysia, Esther Kuan currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. She is an entrepreneur-at-heart, starting her first small business during her days at university. She sold beauty and health products like facial masks and Spirulina which was the trend back then. She also designed websites for overseas customers and made extra income to enjoy university life. Immediately after her last examination paper, she hopped on the bus to Kuala Lumpur. She landed her first job as the personal assistant to a director in an IT company, then moved on to a career in PR, sales and marketing. She undertook photography and videography to produce marketing material and as a hobby. But her passion has always been in health.
This is Esther's entrepreneurial story as shared with Affluent Society from Australia:
Where my passion blossomed
I start volunteering in hospitals when I was 17 years. They opened my eyes to the meaning of life. A hospital is a place where you see the true faces of people, especially patients and their families going through treatments and seeking cures. I once worked in public relations for a cancer hospital and learnt so much about health while speaking with oncologists and nurses about creating cancer awareness. I also organised charity events to raise funds for needy patients from different organisations and the satisfaction of contributing to society is a joy that I can't describe fully.
In pursuit of my passion
In reality, you don't get paid well working for a non-profit organization. I love my job however I need to have a better life for myself and family too. Thus, I gathered up the courage to start my own beauty and wellness business - Unboxing Beauty & Wellness Australia. I have a vision for myself. I want to add value to people 's life. I see my business as a contribution to society because the society will only get better if everyone has a healthy body, mind and soul. I always believe life is meant to be enjoyed and health is the foundation of a happy life.
Creating happiness
Ask my friends, they will tell you I am a cheerful, positive and entrepreneurial person. I enjoy sharing that cheer. Seeing people around me being in the pink of health and improving their lives is my happiest moment. Especially so with seniors when I'm able to help them age well and live healthier lives. I always receive messages and emails of gratitude from family, friends and customers for helping them in their health and living a better quality of life. The value I bring to them is worth more than what money can buy. These little things make my day and it motivates me to be a better self too!
